Taylor Swift thinks about a different Taylor. On Tuesday, the Eras Tour singer dropped the music video for “Elizabeth Taylor,” a track from her album 2025. The Life of a Show which honors the late legend of the screen.
Featured exclusively on Apple Music and Spotify, the video features clips from other movies by movie star Elizabeth Taylor, including the 1956 one. A giantin the 1958s The Cat on a Hot Tin Roofin the 1963s Cleopatra and in the 1966s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Taylor Nation, the artist’s official page, announced on social media that the tribute was released in honor of the last day of Women’s History Month, which takes place throughout March.
Who was Elizabeth Taylor? Why did Taylor Swift pay tribute to him?
Elizabeth Taylor, who died in 2011 at the age of 79, was one of Hollywood’s most loved – and talked about – stars. He rose to fame as a teenager with roles in films such as the 1948 romantic comedy Julia is behaving badly and in the 1949s Little Womenand he was known for his supposedly blue eyes, framed by two rows of eyebrows. (He quickly nods to the actress’s eyes in “Elizabeth Taylor,” saying in the chorus that she will “cry my eyes violet.”)
But despite Elizabeth Taylor’s many Hollywood successes – including two Academy Awards for best actress – the public was uniquely fascinated by her love life. Elizabeth Taylor has been married eight times to seven different men, including Conrad Hilton Jr., the great-grandfather of Paris Hilton, and her best friend Debbie Reynolds who was Eddie Fisher’s ex-husband. She also married Richard Burton twice.
Swift’s song “Elizabeth Taylor” was inspired by the life of the movie star, with whom she feels a deep connection. In conversation with the 2025 and Z100’s The Elvis Duran Showthe “Fate of Ophelia” singer said the song was about “her feelings and my issues with fame through the lens of cosplaying Elizabeth Taylor.”
The opening lyrics of the song reference Portofino, Italy, one of Elizabeth Taylor’s favorite places, and the Paris Plaza Athénée hotel, where the actress lived with then-husband Burton.
“He’s always been someone that I’ve looked at as attractive, very popular, but for some reason he’s a weirdo, which I found myself in that place,” Swift added.
This isn’t the first time Swift has made an actress flinch at her work. His song “… Ready For It?” from his 2017 album Fame calls the lover “Burton to this Taylor.”
Fans say the music video is a ‘skill offering’ and ‘fan change’
Although many fans expressed their happiness with the Instagram post announcing the news, not everyone was sold on the compilation video as the official music video for the song.
Another fan wrote, “Soooo listen I LOVE it but I would love to see a real MV with actors and a story line! Are there any Easter eggs in this video or anything? Like that beeeee. I love u Taylorrr and you are amazing but it’s just not what I was expecting.”
Another added, “WHAT A DAMAGE FOR SONG’S BANGER. the way he could have improved those pictures I swear he’ll look like him…”
Others have declared the limited choice of music video and “fan change” in the late star. And several said they wanted a video similar to the one Swift made for her in 2015 1989 The song “Wildest Dreams,” in which he had a movie actress like Elizabeth Taylor fall in love with his on-screen cost.
Back in February, Swift dropped a music video for The Life of a Show the song “Opalite,” which he directed and performed alongside Domhnall Gleeson. She also released a self-titled video for “The Fate of Ophelia” in October 2025, around the debut of the album.
Currently, Swift is facing a legal battle The Life of a Showwhere producer Maren Wade accused Swift of violating her trademark.
