Marvel has officially created one of the strongest Avengers villains all the time MCU canon, unleashes the Super-Adaptoid’s incredible powers after eighteen years.
Seeing its comic debut in 1966, the Super-Adaptoid mimics the superhuman powers of everyone around it. This includes shapeshifting to resemble them, and even producing weapons such as Iron Man’s armor and Thor’s hammer Mjolnir.
Now, this super power is officially here in the MCU. However, it was the Fantastic Four – not the Avengers – who accomplished it.
Super-Adaptoid is official MCU canon
Marvel recently published The Good Four: First Enemies #1 – a canon prequel comic that explores the early adventures of the titular team. The comic reveals the team’s past relationship with the evil Mad Thinker (who was briefly mentioned in the MCU’s Fantastic Four: First Steps), and his history as Reed’s former teacher.
The Mad Thinker turns on the Bane out of jealousy, and the final straw is when they cover up the unveiling of a dedicated AI that can run New York City properly. In response, he turns the ‘Super-Adaptive Android’ against them, with features designed to counter their powers.
The Fantastic Four: First Enemies #1 from the creative team of Dan Slott, Ryan North, Phil Noto, Mark Buckingham, Alex Sinclair and Joe Carmagna.
From the name to the green design, it’s clear that this is the MCU’s answer to the Super-Adaptoid. The reveal comes as a surprise to fans, as a completely different android is associated with the Mad Thinker in the old comics. In comic fiction, the Mad Thinker’s muscles are the Amazing Android – gray skin, square head, and artificial life form.
Comedy it does and introduce the Super-Adaptive Android – in order to defeat the Super-Adaptive Android, Reed destroys the robot with the HERBIE program. In response, it transforms into an Awesome Android-like form and transforms into the Mad Thinker – just like the original eventually did in Marvel lore. It seems that in the MCU, the two android villains are the same.
The fans knew that First Enemies would officially star in the MCU’s Mad Thinker, and assumed that the Awesome Android would appear, but the introduction of the Super-Adaptoid is a surprise, especially since it’s often linked to it. Avengers dream.
Can Fans See Super-Adaptoid On-Screen?
Leaving Fantastic Four: First Steps set on Earth-828, Marvel is free to introduce a different version of the Super-Adaptoid into the MCU canon later. or to bring back a sense of humor. However, the fans have has already seen the robot on the screen.
First Steps ends with a scene from a fictional cartoon show, in which Sue Storm’s Invisible Woman is shown fighting a green robot.
First Enemies shows the cartoon again, confirming that the robot is a type of ‘Super-Adaptive Android’ program. Of course, the program plays an important role in the plot – it introduces the code name Mad Thinker, intensifying his anger against Reed Richards (until then, he called himself “Great Thinker”.
Viewers who watched the movie wouldn’t have known he was a Super-Adaptoid (and indeed, probably not even then.) However, now they do. Fantastic Four: First Steps legally bring the Avengers’ Super-Adaptoid villain to officially enter MCU canon, which is an opportunity to position it as a major future threat.
The Fantastic Four: First Enemies #1 is available now from Marvel Comics.
