The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with Destin Daniel Cretton and Spider-Man: The New Daya movie that ultimately feels like a Spider-Man movie than an MCU movie. This difference may allow Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to grow as a character in the way that the MCU has Spider-Man the movies don’t, and yet the uncanny resemblance is already to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy with Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man duology is very troubling.
Zendaya’s Michelle Jones-Watson plays a major role in almost the entire MCU Spider-Man movies, and it seems so Spider-Man: The New Dayagain. This could be dangerous for the upcoming film, however, if it means that, once again, the character of life Peter Parker will not be able to avoid his love interest – which he swears that he will not have, even less than a fraction of a second.
Spider-Man Has a Love Interest Problem
Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Peters toy with the feelings of their love interests, Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy, by being emotionally available and not immediately available but not giving them the space they say they need. Now, Tom Holland’s Peter is going down this very famous path.
In-universe, it will have been four years since the events of Spider-Man: No Way For Him to Spider-Man: The New Daywhich means Peter has worked hard without MJ for a very long time, obviously. The problem is that these four years will be erased for a long time and will probably not be seen by the audience outside of the film’s flashback montage.
If it feels like it’s only been a day or two Spider-Man: No Way For Him and Spider-Man: The New Day if you look at them from behind, it will be very difficult to dig Peter and MJ who are already rebuilding. Next Spider-Man the next movie Spider-Man: No Way For Him whether or not MJ spoke up at all would have reinforced how deep Peter’s choice was to have his loved ones forget who he was and not go straight to MJ and Ned to tell them who he was.
Instead, he’s itching to spill the beans, and Peter is very close to MJ and Ned Spider-Man: The New Day (chooses to go to MJ’s apartment party to miss her in the room while her new boyfriend is there) she breaks the confidence with which she holds back the tears, smiles, puts her handwritten note in her pocket, and gives her happiness for their safety.
It is possible that MJ will break Doctor Strange’s Spell
The apartment party scene at the end of the trailer reveals that MJ has a Pepe Silvia-esque wall and a stack of Spider-Man photos, which means she’s been researching Spider-Man and is obsessed with finding out who he is. Whether on purpose or not, Spider-Man: No Way For HimThe ending may have already shown that MJ will soon learn who he is when he says he is, and that he can do it again.
Additionally, with the key to New York City being the main focus of the first trailer, the most surprising way MJ finds out that Peter is Spider-Man is when he sees a large gold key lying around in his apartment—assuming he doesn’t show it to him first as a way to convince him.
Hell, MJ is still wearing the Black Dahlia necklace that Peter bought her during their international school trip to Venice, Italy in Spider-Man: Far From Home. There’s a lot going on Spider-Man: The New Dayhowever it will be a surprise if MJ doesn’t know who Peter is by the end of it.
Spider-Man: The New Day is slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
