Prince Harry ‘hopes King will invite Meghan and children to Sandringham this summer’

Prince Harry hopes he, his wife Meghan and their two children will be invited by the King for “family time” at Sandringham this summer, according to reports.

The Duke of Sussex has only seen his father twice in two years, while Prince Archie, six, and Princess Elizabeth, four, last saw their grandfather more than four years ago. The Duchess of Sussex was last in the UK when the couple attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

Harry, who is currently awaiting a decision on his security in the UK, said he would not feel safe bringing his family to the UK without the protection of armed police, which the Sussexes abandoned when they stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States.

But the Duke, aged 41, would accept an invitation from the King at Sandringham, his home in Norfolk, as he believes this will enable him to bring his family.

A friend of the 41-year-old said The Sunday Times: “If he was invited by the King, he would get an automatic security package. He would like to be invited to Sandringham. Would he go? It would depend on who was there. If the King said, ‘Go up and spend some time with the family’, he would like that.”

Harry last saw his father on September 10 last year when they met for less than an hour at Clarence House for the first time in 19 months. Afterwards, a source close to the duke told the newspaper: “He always likes to see his father and would like to see him as much as he can.”

The pair are believed to have spoken several times since then, although Harry was in London for his ongoing court case against Associated Newspapers and did not see his family. She and the Prince of Wales are still separated.

Before the September meeting, Harry and Charles last met face-to-face in February when the duke rushed to see the monarch after learning of his cancer diagnosis. However, they spent just over 30 minutes together before the King left to recuperate at Sandringham. Charles is still receiving treatment for the disease.

Harry has previously spoken of his hope for “reconciliation” with his family, saying: “It’s true that some members of my family will not forgive me if I write a book.” Of course, they will never forgive me for many things.

He added: “But you know, I would like reconciliation with my family,” and said “there is no point in continuing to fight”.

Spare’s controversial autobiography contained many accusations against the royal family. The book came out in January 2023 and opened a rift with her brother, with allegations that Prince William physically assaulted her. The well-publicized memoir also covers the death of Prince Harry and Diana’s mother, as well as his sex life, drug use and time in the military.
