Former “Dancing with the Stars” pro Charlotte Jørgensen is speaking out after surviving the deadly Air Canada plane crash last week at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
On March 22, two pilots were killed when an Air Canada Express flight carrying 72 passengers and four crew members struck a Port Authority fire truck while descending Runway 4 at the airport.
In an Instagram post he shared Sunday, Jørgensen revealed that he was a passenger on the plane and opened up about that terrifying experience and how he deals with its consequences.

“A week ago tonight, after a great weekend in Montreal, I boarded Air Canada 8646 bound for La Guardia NYC. By now, most of you have probably heard about the collision with the fire truck on the runway,” the 54-year-old dancer wrote along with a photo of the collision that appeared to be taken from the truck.

He continued, “I owe my life to two brave souls Captain Antoine Forest and First Officer Mackenzie Gunther – they made the ultimate sacrifice for us all to live…. I owe them and my thoughts are with their families.”
“That night I didn’t feel anything as the adrenaline was running through my body but the following days were difficult – physically, mentally and emotionally,” Jørgensen shared.

He added: “I’m home now, and Nelson and Vivianna are taking good care of me. “I’ll be taking time to recover. I’m thankful for all the love I’ve received and I send you all a warm hug.
“Thank you to my @dancingwiththestars family for your care and concern.”

The Danish native’s post was met with a flood of supportive comments, including a message from Lisa O’Hurley, the wife of Jørgensen’s former dance partner, actor John O’Hurley.
“Charlotte I’m so glad you’re safe and it’s a heartfelt gesture of gratitude from someone out there,” Lisa wrote. “Like [my son] Will is now the elusive pilot. These two men are heroes.”
In 2005, Jørgensen and O’Hurley in the first season of “Dancing with the Stars.” The pair finished second in the final group.
However, their loss to “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco and pro Alec Mazo sparked a big reaction from the viewers, who thought that O’Hurley and Jørgensen were strong viewers and showed that the two got higher scores than Monaco and Mazo throughout the season.
The controversy led ABC to make the unprecedented decision to create a special match between the two finalists, to give viewers another chance to vote, resulting in O’Hurley and Jørgensen winning.

In November 2025, Jørgensen returned to the ballroom for “Dancing with the Stars”” in a 20th anniversary special, reuniting with five of his teammates from the first season including Mazo, Edyta Śliwińska, Ashly DelGrosso, Louis van Amstel and Jonathan Roberts.
She joined the cast of the opening party number honoring the show’s first season and its original stars, which was hosted by “DWTS” judge and former protégé Derek Hough.
“After taking some time to think about all those feelings [were] involved in returning to DWTS again after 20 years here are a few things to share,” Jørgensen wrote on Instagram at the time. @hayley.erbert for your great strength with a pregnant belly.

In total, more than 40 people were injured in the accident, including passengers, crew and two members of the Air Rescue and Fire Department (ARFF) in a fire truck, which was responding to a separate incident during the collision.

Most of the injured have been released from hospital, and only a small number remain under medical care in the days following the incident.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the crash remains under investigation.
