A Hollywood star says Sydney Sweeney is the “wrong” choice to play him in an upcoming biopic

The Hollywood picture seems to really feel the theme of Sydney Sweeney‘s 2023 rom-com, “Anyone But You.”

Last week, “Vertigo” star Kim Novak said The Times that he “wouldn’t approve” of Sweeney being cast in the upcoming film “Scandalous,” about Novak’s relationship with Sammy Davis Jr.’s co-star.

The drama will be directed by Sweeney’s “Euphoria” co-star, Colman Domingo. David Jonsson, who starred in “The Long Walk” last year, is slated to play Davis.

It should be noted that the production of “Scandalous” seems to have been stopped at that time, regardless Sweeney told People in October 2025 that he was “incredibly honored to wake up Kim.”

But the feelings don’t seem to be the same. Sweeney “sticks too much above the waist,” Novak told the Times, saying the actress’ oversexuality would create the wrong kind of impression about her relationship with Davis.

He and Davis were attracted to each other because they “had a lot in common,” Novak said. There’s no way it wouldn’t be a sexual relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks great all the time.

Davis also suggested that she and Novak had a different kind of bond, writing in her autobiography that the “one thing” they had in the beginning was “opposition,” according to the Smithsonian.

Novak said that their rejection of racial stereotypes during their relationship was what attracted him.

“I felt that by seeing Sammy and Sammy seeing me, we could help people understand and accept interracial relationships of any kind,” he said in 2023.

The romance between the two stars began in 1957 when Novak caught Davis’ eye while performing at a Chicago nightclub, according to the Smithsonian. Davis asked her friends, Hollywood couple Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, to invite them both to their home, and things took off from there. Soon after, a blind item was published in a gossip column that heavily implied that Davis and Novak were dating, putting both of their careers in jeopardy at the time.

To In 1957, interracial marriage was legal in many countriesand many Americans were against it, including the head of the infamous Columbia Pictures studio, Harry Cohn – who did not like one of his hottest stars to partner with a Black person. When rumors began to circulate that the two might get married, Cohn used his mob connections to end their relationship.

“They said they would break both of his legs, put out one of his eyes, and bury him in a hole if he didn’t marry a black woman right away,” said Arthur Silber, a close friend of Davis, according to the Smithsonian. “She was scared as hell, as was I.”

Davis married a Black woman, actress Loray White, in 1958. They divorced a year later.

Davis went on to marry Swedish actress May Britt in 1960, and the couple received subsequent attacks and death threats. Eight years and three children later, the couple divorced in 1968. Davis died in 1990.

Novak has played down the passion of his relationship with Davis, describing it as a deep friendship.

When The Times asked him about the rumors that they were planning to get married, he denied it.

He said: “No, no. I mean he loved me.
