The new Tomb Raider series is halting production after the lead stars were injured

An introduction to the new Tomb Raider The series was put on hold after Sophie Turner was injured.

The Game of Thrones The actor’s injuries were described as “minor”, and a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios said: “We expect to start production as soon as possible.”

It is currently unclear whether Turner was injured while filming.

Turner is currently playing archaeologist-adventurer Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s upcoming series, but developed a back problem while training for the role last year.

In January, he spoke about the grueling training he’s put in throughout 2025, saying: “We’ve been training eight hours a day, five days a week since February last year.”

Series creator and showrunner Waller-Bridge said of the project: “Tomb Raider it has many unique characters. I’m excited to be able to bring personal and fan favorites to the screen while introducing our new rascals into the mix. This character is beyond my wildest dreams!”

Turner takes over the role previously filled by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in earlier adaptations.

In 2024, Vikander said Independent he was “sad” he would not come back Tomb Raider sequel.

Vikander played a video game character in the latest adaptation, which was released in 2018. It was a revival of the franchise that introduced Jolie in the early 2000s.

The film received mediocre reviews from critics, and grossed $275m (£228m) at the global box office, but Vikander received critical acclaim for the role – which was close to a comeback for the Swedish star.

However, when MGM lost the rights to Tomb Raider, the project fell apart, meaning a distraught Vikander lost the chance to return as Croft.

The actor said he would be back “for sure” for Tomb Raider 2 if the project would have gone ahead, he added: “I’m very happy.”
