Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son is following in his famous muscle father’s footsteps.
Joseph Baena took the stage in his first bodybuilding competition on March 28, competing at the NPC Natural Colorado State Denver competition.
Shortly after he left the stage, the 28-year-old updated his Instagram with a triumphant post, flexing his muscles in trunks and wearing a wide smile that made him look more like his father, 78, than ever.

“Mission Accomplished!” he wrote, before listing his victories in both bodybuilding and bodybuilding.

During his first competition, Baena won gold in the Men’s Open Bodybuilding Heavy Weight Class, as well as the Men’s Classic Physique True Novice—a competition for beginners—and the Men’s Classic Physique Novice. Additionally, he won silver in the Men’s Classic Physique Open Class C.
In the pictures, Baena clearly resembled his father in his “Austrian Oak” days – a moniker given to him because of his super strong physique.
Before Schwarzenegger hit Hollywood with blockbusters like The Terminator and Batman & Robin—and before he was governor of California for eight years—he managed several major bodybuilding competitions.
The Austrian-born athlete is a seven-time winner of the famous bodybuilding competition, Mr. Olympia, and has received five Mr. Universe titles.

Like his father, Baena is 6-foot-2. She has had a big change since her youth, as she has spoken about being overweight in high school.
On Instagram, he once wrote that he “tried” basketball and soccer teams because he couldn’t “keep up” with other kids.

He wrote that he made a swimming team because of the lack of trials and found his way to exercise.

The two father-sons were not always close.
While married to writer Maria Shriver, with whom he shares four children, Schwarzenegger had a good marital relationship with Baena’s mother, Mildred Patricia Baena. It was only until Baena reached the eighth grade that he learned Hero of the Last Act the star was his father.
Now, the two seem to be spending quality time together, mostly around their shared passion for fitness and bodybuilding.

Baena, a salesman, often posts photos and videos from the gym on social media, sometimes featuring his famous dad.
Last week, she shared an Instagram post of the two at the gym, captioned, “You gotta rock the muscles!” The phrase is the principle of training preferred by Schwarzenegger, which means that the muscles should be subjected to different types of stimuli.
After Baena shared her accomplishment on Saturday, many famous bodybuilders joined her comments to congratulate her.
Another encouraging comment comes from Phil Heath, who is tied with Schwarzenegger for the second Mr. Olympia victory. (The record is held by Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman, who each won eight.) Heath wrote, “So amazing!!! Congratulations.”
