‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’: First Editions

My mother! Super Mario Galaxy Movie held its first press releases on Monday and the initial response on social media appears to have been mixed. Ouch.

Although thorough reviewers check for Super Mario Galaxy Movie banned until Tuesday, Universal allowed the press and others to post their limited comments on social media on Monday.

The sequel to the highly popular 2023 franchise Super Mario Bros. Movie, Galaxy tells the story of Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach once again to face the evil Bowser (this time together with his son Bowser Jr.) in a tobogan that spans the galaxy. Along the way they meet new characters including Princess Rosalina and Nintendo character Yoshi.

Galaxy also stars Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad). New voices for the sequel include Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.), Issa Rae (Queen Bee), Brie Larson (Princess Rosalina), Glen Powell (Fox McCloud) and Donald Glover (Yoshi).

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return to direct Galaxy with a script written by Matthew Fogel, who also wrote the first film.

Despite the muted reactions from the press, Universal and Nintendo will be confident Galaxy follows the path of the film 2023, which was a global phenomenon, winning $ 1.36 billion in box office revenue (from a low production budget of $ 100 million). Super Mario Bros. similarly it didn’t move much with the critics and has a score of 59 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (with a huge 95 percent with the audience).

Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit on April 1. Check out a selection of social media reactions to the film below.
