You have the power … to watch the new trailer for the upcoming movie “Masters of the Universe”. Amazon MGM Studios is behind this latest iteration of the beloved ’80s franchise, as it kept the “MOTU” movie in the works after Netflix canceled it. Now, after years of stalling and development and the film changing hands several times, it’s finally upon us. Was it worth the wait? Check out the trailer above and decide for yourself.
Amazon will be very successful with “Project Hail Mary,” which is currently the biggest Hollywood movie of 2026. Can lightning strike twice for the technology company in the big financial arena this year? The original 1987 version of “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” with Dolph Lundgren has its fans, but, to put it kindly, it’s not exactly a masterpiece. Can director Travis Knight, the man behind “Bumblebee,” prove he can work his magic on another big-screen take on the iconic ’80s toy series? We will see. Here is a synopsis of the film:
After being separated for 15 years, the Power Sword leads Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) back to Eternia where he finds his home destroyed under the brutal rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must team up with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and accept his true destiny as He-Man—the most powerful man in the universe.
As for the new trailer? Of course, that’s the voice Jared Leto uses as Skeletor.

Can Masters of the Universe beat the box office (and curse Jared Leto with it)?
Jared Leto as Evil Smiling Skeleton in Masters of the Universe (2026) – Amazon MGM Studios
To borrow a phrase from the famous “Saturday Night Live” skit “Haunted Elevator (ft. David S. Pumpkins)”: Why did you walk into Jared Leto, Hollywood?
He may be an Oscar winner, but Leto has rightly fallen on hard times since being accused of sexual misconduct by several women. Additionally, he has a terrible track record when it comes to his big budget sports efforts. Indeed, after starring in the non-cult films “TRON: Ares,” “Haunted Mansion” and “Morbius,” this man really deserves to be considered box office poison this season. And while “Masters of the Universe” will certainly benefit from Skeletor not looking or sounding anything like Leto himself, that may not be enough to break his losing streak.
As for the rest of the film around him? It’s hard to say. Travis Knight found the heart of the movie “Transformers” with “Bumblebee” and directed one of Laika’s Stop-motion episodes with “Kubo and the Two Strings,” so it is possible that he made a movie “Masters of the Universe” that works as compellingly as the best movie is considered this property. a sequel cartoon series created by Kevin Smith). But given how far this film has been passed, with no less than four screenwriters (Chris Butler, Aaron Nee & Adam Nee & Dave Callaham) and four screenwriters (Aaron Nee & Adam Nee, Alex Litvak & Michael Finch) to its name, one worries that any personality he might have had had passed by the time Knight got involved.
“Masters of the Universe” opens in theaters on June 5, 2026.
