Amanda Peet exposes the “desperation” behind Hollywood stardom

Amanda Peet draws a blank curtain on life under the spotlight.

The 54-year-old actor called Hollywood nothing but “smoke and mirrors.”

It’s funny,” Peet told Fox News Digital when asked about the “most common misconception” that stars have the “perfect life in Hollywood.” “It’s smoke and mirrors. There is none There There. I mean you name the aphorism, it applies to us. It’s a lot of sweat. ‘What are they doing there? Why don’t I have that? Why don’t I look like that?’ That’s the bad part.”

He continued, “Hollywood, it’s hard to — I’m going to sound corny. It’s competitive, and it’s hard to get out of that competitive mindset where the cheese part of the island is so small and so many people are following it.”

The “Something’s Gotta Give” star added that aging in a youth-driven industry isn’t easy.

“I’m older, so I’m more at peace with it, but it’s really hard to find that, and it’s hard not to want to chase your buzz if you’re lucky enough to have it, and instead be like, ‘What do I want to do when my alarm goes off in the morning? What do I want to do? Is this what I want to do?’

Peet is starring in the second season of Apple TV’s “Friends and Neighbors,” which premieres Friday, April 3 with one new episode each week through June 5.

He said fans can expect “a lot more” in Season 2.

“Then there’s also the fact that Coop has this secret life,” Peet said of Jon Hamm’s character who plays her ex-husband on the show.

“And I think this season, a lot of people are starting to know that something is going on with Coop,” he continued. And it’s getting more and more dangerous for him to continue doing what he’s doing, which is very exciting. [her character] Mel and Coop are still like that, aren’t they? They are very much in love, but they still seem to want to be in love. Well, it’s really a big mess. ”

Peet said she also appreciated the story line in which her character talks about menopause, which she says left her depressed.

“It was really scary to be able to put my frustration and anger about menopause into a proper context, which is to act as an actor rather than in my life,” Peet revealed.

The actress also opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis, which she announced earlier this month.

He told Fox News Digital that when he first heard the news, his thoughts were filled with “fear”.

He admitted: “My children are afraid.

Peet said he decided not to tell his dying mother “because she hadn’t been well for so long that it was, you know, obviously me, you know, if she would have understood, I wouldn’t have wanted to scare her.”

“So, it wasn’t a hard decision, it was hard in the world because I’ve been close to him my whole life.”

Peet revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in an interview with the New Yorker last Saturday, saying that it is stage I and she does not need chemotherapy, but will undergo a lumpectomy and radiation.
