The model shared their announcement publicly on Sunday, posting a clip on Instagram from their infamous 2011 interview with ABC News’ Lara Spencer, which took place after Stodden married 51-year-old Doug Hutchinson when she was 16.

They continued, “There’s a part of my story that no one has ever understood. As an adult – I was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome… and for most of my childhood I lived with tics that I couldn’t control.”

Stodden, 31, explained that their tics included stuttering, eye twitching, mouth movements and muscle tension, as well as seizures when they were younger.

“I haven’t talked about it before… because I was embarrassed,” the reality star wrote. I didn’t want to isolate myself.

Stodden clearly explained that when their “muscles and muscle twitches” occurred, they tried to make it seem “deliberate” and “pleasant” to hide what they really were.

But when Stodden did their 2011 viral interview, their “nerves” brought the tics back up.

“At that point people became a meme … people thought it was something,” Stodden recalled. I wasn’t. There was no alcohol, no pills. Nothing in my system.

“What you saw…

Stodden said that after hiding his Tourette’s syndrome, they were no longer “shocked” by their diagnosis.

They said: “Because there’s nothing to be ashamed of about something you couldn’t control. And if you’ve ever been misunderstood about something your body did… you’re not alone.”

Stodden became a tabloid sensation in 2011 after tying the knot with Hutchison, 65, aged 16 at a fast-paced party in Las Vegas.
