Howie Mandel apologized to Kelly Ripa after an awkward moment during his appearance on ‘Live With Kelly and Mark’ on Monday.
The comedian took to his Instagram on Saturday to apologize to the TV host, saying his reaction was a joke that didn’t sit well.
“Okay, I’ve been debating for 48 hours whether or not I should make this post and I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing,” Mandel began in her apology video, captioning it: “A message to @kellyripa.”
“Philosophically, I don’t believe that anyone should … someone who is a comedian needs to apologize for a joke, it’s a joke,” he said.

“It is said as a joke, and it is not intended to offend, it is not intended to … you will not like it and in all my years, all my 50 years in the business, I have never publicly apologized for … This is difficult for me, but this is for Kelly Ripa, who in the past has been amazingly supportive of the beach movie,” Maneddel said of the beach movie.
“Not only have I been a guest on his show, but I’ve met him, and I’ve known him for many years. Micheal Gelman, who is his very close friend, is the producer of the show. And when I’m out there, I’m just trying to have fun, to be funny,” he explained.

“And sometimes, as a comedian, things don’t go the way you want them to. And I don’t know how to say this, but it’s not just that I want to say sorry to Kelly,” Mandel said. “But this is the hardest part… you’re right. You’re absolutely right.”
She seemed to make it easy to talk about it, ending the video saying: “And I’m sorry I didn’t see it that way, but after a lot of thinking and self-examination, I do… I look good for my age, I really do. I really look amazing, and I just have to accept the fact that I look good.”
The tense moment on the air began when “Live With Kelly and Mark” co-star Ripa’s husband Mark Consuelos said to Mandel: “You just turned 70. You’re 70 years old.”
Ripa added: “It makes no sense.

“What do you mean it doesn’t make sense?” Mandel asked, and Consuelos said, “You look great!”
Mandel appeared to take Ripa’s compliment as she took a dig at the age, saying: “Do I look older? That doesn’t mean anything to me. No, no, no, no. I don’t like that, because it’s a warning.”

“I look older? That doesn’t mean anything to me. No, no, no, no, I don’t like that, because that’s a caveat,” Mandel said at a fixed time.
“Let’s just say he looks good for 70. He looks good,” Ripa replied.

That’s right, without saying ’70,'” Mandel said.
“I do. I do,” Consuelos joked, trying to make light of the moment.
“It’s like saying you’re smart for a stupid person,” he said, implying that the compliment was an insult.
“Yes,” Consuelos replied, before Mandel appeared to cut the time short: “I’ll be sure for a minute. I’m so cute!” Mandel laughed, drawing a laugh.
