Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner
Readers can’t wait to see one surprising twist on romance that’s already underway: Meryl Wilsner’s Cleat Cute. This rivals-to-lovers rom-com centered around the captain of the United States women’s national soccer team and a brazen rookie has been picked up by A Touch More, the production company created by former pro soccer player Megan Rapinoe and her wife, former basketball player Sue Bird. Adapting to this lovable coming-of-age story and fitting romance can be a lot of fun.
Grand Slam Romance by Ollie Hicks and Emma Oosterhous
Looking for violent sports competitions and romantic feelings? You’ll find all that and a whole lot of magic in the Grand Slam Romance graphic novel series, created by Ollie Hicks and Emma Oosterhous (married! beautiful!). Mickey Monsoon is a simple football star, but their chance to be at the top this season is thwarted by Astra, Mickey’s former friend… girlfriend? something else? …returns from Switzerland having become a major threat in Mickey’s game. The only way Mickey sees to win now requires switching teams and luring Astra’s ex-girlfriend to throw him off his game. Like A Hot Debateit has a league full of likable players and a lot of high-profile performances.

The Prospects by KT Hoffman
This local romance novel has a cult following. (Hey, he’s a cult leader.) Gene Ionescu is the first openly gay baseball player. When a former friend-turned-enemy who plays the same role as Gene is traded to his team, Gene is thrown for a loop. If they’re going to play well, they’re going to have to develop chemistry off and on the field. KT Hoffman writes with the perfect combination of humor and heart, and a good production team could easily knock it off. The Prospects practice out of the park.
Love and Sports by Meka James
Meka James’ streak with the Atlanta Cannons could bring some heat to women’s basketball if it turns into a series. The first book, Love and Sportsballfollows athletic trainer Khadijah as she begins her new job with the Atlanta Cannons and is forced to confront star player Shae Harris after a one-night stand. Will the heat between them hinder the game or will it make Shae play harder? Khadijah and Shae’s electric chemistry can completely light up the screen in a TV series.
