Sharon Stone talks about what she sees as a change in how sexuality is portrayed on screen.
The brand “Basic Instinct” said that the intimacy of today’s screen has lost the thing that once made it so powerful – the mystery.
In a sit-down interview, Stone reflected on a tragic incident that helped define his career.

“Sharon, when you look at your legendary career, what do you think – I remember when ‘Basic Instinct’ came out? Cross your legs, cross your legs,” anchor Gayle King said. “And I remember – ‘Are you wearing panties?’ – that’s how crazy it got, right?”

“Okay. It was a third of the frame,” Stone replied. “It wasn’t even a whole frame of film.”
“And, therefore, people were trying hard to find it,” he continued. “And I think the idea of ’oh my god,’ this hope, this wonder, this mystery, this intrigue, this desire is something that our deep sexual relationships are based on.

“Usually now, when sexual images appear on television – I quickly move on,” he said. “I don’t want to see it. I don’t want to go through this obvious, hard sex. For me, it steals from my thoughts. And I choose my desire, the secret, the desire. I want to keep that alive inside me.”
The actor also acknowledged the lasting impact of his role and the complex legacy that followed.
“But that changed the nature of your work, it seems,” King said.

“Oh my God, it changed everything,” Stone replied.
When asked how he feels about it today, Stone spoke candidly at his expense.
“In many ways, I feel like I’m not protected and taken care of. And now, in many ways, I feel punished because of the behavior of others,” he said.

“You know, I lost custody of my child…. My child was put on the bench in custody court and asked if his mother was making sex movies. I mean, things that were incredibly inappropriate,” Stone explained. “People treated me in a way that was…cruel and unkind, like I was a dirty, dirty person.”
“As if you were wearing a scarf of A on your head,” the King added.
“Yeah, I mean, you know, I played a character — 30 years ago. Like, grow up,” Stone said.
Stone’s words echo the confusion he expressed earlier this year, when he took aim at what he described as Hollywood’s double standards on celibacy.

In an Instagram video posted in February, the 68-year-old actor slammed what he sees as hypocrisy after a film crew asked him to remove a nude woman from the scene during a shoot in his home.
“Should we be scared when we look in the mirror?” He asked one by one. “Should it be a secret when we pee and bathe and brush our teeth? Oh, should you look in there and go, ‘Oh, why should we be afraid of our people?’

In a statement accompanying the video, Stone expanded on her thoughts, arguing that society remains uncomfortable with the human body as it tolerates other types of issues.
“Why in 2026 are we still afraid to grow old and live on our own? We are more than appearances. We are artists, mothers, daughters, wives, nurses, teachers… and the list goes on!” you wrote.

“I was very angry about this when I was visiting my studio a few weeks ago. The filming team had asked to remove the image, ‘Goddess,’ which is a naked woman. We fear violence on our screens, in our bodies, in our homes… but not violence or everything that we are bombarded with every day?

Stone continues to embrace her unique role during her illustrious Hollywood career.
In 2024, he paid tribute to his “Basic Instinct” character, Catherine Tramell, by recounting the moment she crossed her leg in the film in a bold Instagram post.
