Story 5 Toy Ernie Hudson didn’t know he was replacing Carl Weathers.

Ernie Hudson was missing key points when he joined Toy Story 5.

The The Ghostbusters The star was cast to voice the character Combat Carl in the next series, a role previously held by the late Carl Weathers. Combat Carl started for the first time Toy Story of Terror!a Halloween-themed television special that aired on ABC in 2013, where he helps Jessie (Joan Cusack) overcome her fear and save other games. Weather is back to improve more Combat Carls Toy Story 4which was released in theaters in 2019.

In conversation with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley for Boston BlueHudson was asked how it felt to take the role of Combat Carl and get on board Toy Story franchise. After many years of being disappointed that he was not asked to join the franchise, he expressed that he was happy to be part of it along with some of his friends who were part of it. However, Hudson didn’t find out until much later “first meeting” that he was playing Weathers’ character. He believes this was so he could make the game his own, and rightly so “sir” building on the work of his old friend. Check out Hudson’s comments below:

It was nice to join the franchise because I’ve always loved it and I’ve always been disappointed that they didn’t ask me. And I had friends that were there, Carl Weathers and Annie Potts and Tom Hanks and a bunch of guys that I worked with years ago, but they didn’t tell me that Combat Carl was played by Carl Weathers. So when I went into the meeting, we did the first show and the fans heard about it and told me. And I thought, ‘Well, why didn’t you…’ And I think maybe they wanted me to do my own thing without trying to imitate or replicate what he did or something. I don’t know. So I’m hoping the fans will like it, but Carl, he’s been a friend for 40, 50 years. I’ve known him for a long time, a great guy, and I’m honored to play the role, but what I’ve come up with is how it’s going to fit together. You will have to let me know.

Hudson’s friends Tom Hanks and Annie Potts are not the only part of Toy Story 5and we’ve had permission since the original movie premiered in 1995, as Hanks and Potts are the different voices of Woody and Bo Peep.
