Longtime keyboardist Jonathan Cain has admitted that a suggestion he made last month – that former singer Steve Perry could tour with the band on their current split tour – was deliberately misleading.
In mid-February, Cain was asked by Ultimate Classic Rock if Perry would appear with the band during the tour, which began later that month at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
“Neal has already asked, and he said (Perry) is thinking about it,” Cain told the website. “I hope you come out. In time. We have 100 shows, so you’re welcome to one of them.”

Now, to a Rolling Stone In a report that reveals the dysfunction of Trip’s inner circle, Cain admits that he only made the proposal because he knew Perry would have to oppose it.
Cain says: “I sowed a small seed Rolling Stone. “I was trying to catch a little bit, and I said, ‘Well, he’s thinking about it. He came right out and said, ‘No, I’m not.’ I did that on purpose, because there is a lot of fake AI stuff going on. You just look at it and say, ‘Wait a minute, no, that’s not true. None of this is true.’
Elsewhere in an amazing account of the final rehearsals of the Tour before the tour, writer Andy Greene finds Cain, guitarist Neal Schon and singer Arnel Pineda in very different places.
Pineda reveals that he tried to leave the group twice, fearing that his singing voice will not be able to withstand the harsh conditions of the tour, and he says that Cain once suggested that he agree to the stage.
Meanwhile, Schon denies knowledge of Pineda’s concerns and reveals that he is sick of his fights with Cain (the two have been exchanging accusations and cease and desist orders for several years), saying, “I just want a little peace, really. [battles]. It doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t have time for it.”
For his part, Cain denies that he ever suggested that Pineda agree to lip-sync on stage, and pushed back against Schon’s suggestions that he not be active in politics (Cain’s wife is Paula White-Kaine, Senior Counselor of the White House Credentials Office, and she offended Schon in 2022 by playing. Don’t Stop Believing‘ during a party at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate).
“People do that at a karaoke bar,” he says. “I can’t do it at Mar-a-Lago? And, you know, it lit up the room. It was really cool to see all these gentlemen go, ‘I think I know this song,’ and start singing. And I have to tell you, if you can light up a room and have fun with a song you helped create, then you’re doing something good. Everyone was paid.
